In the recent McKinsey Global Institute report, 39–73 million jobs in the United States are forecast to lose automation. How fast each sector can automate, how demand changes with a growingly ageing population, and how each industry adapts to promote economic growth is dependent on the number of individuals. Although automation may appear to have a detrimental effect only on US employment, research suggests that robotics will create employment to change different industries. Mr McKinsey’s report suggests that almost 20 million employees could lose their jobs in automation in similar occupations and can easily find jobs.

Significance of rehabilitation

In order to reduce unemployment through automation, the transition from human to machine controlled equipment is best managed. This can be achieved through retraining as the most effective approach for employers. In the McKinsey report, 16 million to 54 million people, or almost a third of American employees, must be fully retrained for new jobs. Employers should invest in retraining personnel with creative positions in the facility. Ultimately, changes in the manufacturing industry depend on how quickly automation changes. But don’t imagine, as in movies, that robots  will overthrow us. Manufacturers can ensure that they maintain their employees safe by investing in rehabilitation.

Work Types

Robots can work faster and more accurately with a number of blue-collar jobs. However, while technology optimises production, people need to change things. Human qualities like intuition, creativity and care in many industries require many jobs. Most manufacturers automatically carry out repetitive, stressful tasks for people and take time. Automation allows people to play roles that demand more soft skills, such as collaboration , communication and solution of problems.
